Stephen James Atencio was born November 8, 1946 in Trinidad, CO to Elouise and Agapito Atencio.  He graduated in the Wheat Ridge High School class of 1965 where he played Farmer basketball all 4 years.  Jim went to college at Adams State College in Alamosa, CO where he received his Business Administration degree with a minor in Accounting.  There he met his future wife, Evelyn, and they were married June 7, 1969  After graduating college in 1969, Jim worked for Public Service Accounting Dept. until 1977 when he went in to business with his brother John Atencio.  Together, they formed John Atencio Designer Fine Jewelry and grew the company to close to a dozen retail stores nation-wide.  The majority of Jim's adult-hood were spent living in the beautiful foothills of Colorado with his wife Evelyn and his 2 children, Scott Stephen and Carey Lynn.  Jim died on the morning of March 8, 1991 from suicide.  He was a wonderful man, husband, father, friend, and business-man...he is sorely missed by his friends and family.
